What is a Monkat? Why…it's half monkey, half cat, and half monk. But wait…that makes one and a half, you can't do that… can you?
Matt and the Monkats is a folk rock band from Silverton, Oregon. The core members of the group are songwriter Matt Price, Jeff Icovino (drums) and Clint Boylan (bass, lap steel). At some shows and in some recordings they're joined by a few more Monkats such as Jake Prahar on lead guitar, AJ Rock on vocals, and Clair Dietz on cello.
In May of 2026, the band released a self-titled full-length album which was recorded at the Majestic Rose Theatre in Silverton with producer Sam Heinzman. Dylan Barr with Rong Records also with the recording and mixing of the project.
Thank you for all of you who listen to our songs and who come to see us live. We are humbled and honored that we have the chance to create music together as friends and share it with you. We love what we do. We hope our music embodies the cleverness of a cat, mind of a monk, and the mischieviousness of a monkey. Most of all, we hope our music brings something positive into your life and into this world and that it would give people a good reason to come together.
