From the recording Save Silverton
Lyrics
Wildfire raging down from the mountains
Raining ash in the valley where we are
If they say go, you best pay attention
Grab what you can, throw it in your car
With the pushing of that strong eastern wind
And a summer that’s been too damn dry
Fear hangs heavy like the smoke that I breathe in
Hurts my head and burns my eyes.
With the whole west ablaze and fire crews stretched thin
Who’s gunna save this little town where I come from?
They’re battling the beast, but it seem like they’re outgunned
And I couldn’t blame anyone who’d choose to run.
But some stayed to save Silverton.
Fire crews haven’t slept in two days
And my heart aches for those whose homes are lost
Trying to hold the line against the flames
Goddamn fire, just jumps across.
They say rain’s coming Monday, but that might be too late
To save this little town where I come from
So they’re loading up their trailers with horses at the neighbor’s
And livestock that’s got nowhere to run
Some stayed to save Silverton
Through the eerie silence you can hear the sound
Of engines and sirens all over town
The farmer’s hauling water while at home his wife and daughter
Are collecting clothes for evacuees
And the Kuenzis and the Roses, they’re driving their bulldozers
They’re trying to cut a fire break in the trees.
Look like it’s holding. Dear God, please…
This ain’t no time for celebration
When other towns didn’t escape.
Ain’t no words for the devastation
In Detroit, Mill City, and Gates.
With the whole west ablaze and fire crews stretched thin
Who’s gunna save this state where I come from?
They’re battling the beast, but it seem like they’re outgunned
And I couldn’t blame anyone who’d choose to run.
But some stayed to save Silverton.
God, please help Oregon.
